Gothic Dresses & Black Goth Dresses
A gothic dress carries the whole outfit on its own, which is why it is worth choosing slowly. Nineteen hang on this rail, from minis to gowns that reach the floor, in velvet, lace, tulle, mesh and linen. Our creative director, Alisa Karin, picked every one.
Length decides where a dress can go. The Forest Flower, with its sheer sleeves and lace hem, the Red Roses slip with its crimson print and the sage floral Enchanted Bloom are the minis. The Spell Weaver is a midi, sheer tiers in a lavender tie-dye wash that move like smoke. At the long end sit the maxis and gowns: the Nightshade Bloom, a bias-cut slip with a ruffled neck that floats just above the floor, the ruched Violet Sin in dusty amethyst mesh, and the high-low Fallen Muse, which pools tulle at your feet.
Fabric settles the occasion. Velvet on the Gothic Lolita, with its ruffled collar and pearl bow, is the autumn and winter answer, and the Velvet Widow, a plunge neck framed in lace under bell sleeves, keeps it company on candlelit evenings. Linen does the opposite job: the Woodland Priestess, sage-green linen over a boned corset bodice, belongs to summer gardens. Black tulle over a corset-style bodice makes the Garden of Shadows a formal gown, and the Fallen Muse's listing names gothic weddings among its occasions. The Mourning Gown, petal-cut at the cuffs and hem, is Victorian mourning worn by choice rather than obligation. Most of this year's arrivals brought colour with them: plum, violet, lavender, dusty amethyst, sage and emerald, so black no longer has the rail to itself.
Here is where the sizes stop. Twelve of the nineteen end at L and three more reach XL. The Black Dahlia, the Forest Flower Mini and the Garden of Shadows Gown go to 2XL, which is as far as this collection goes; for larger sizes, our plus-size collection has two dresses that run to 4XL and 5XL. Most listings give the model's height and her size, and she wears S on every one that says. Prices run from $31.90 to $125, and the six gowns sit between $63.70 and $95.
